Just got the car back from Maaco. WOW! I really like the new color. It's New Beetle "Techno Blue." I can see some red here and there -- inside the side mirrors, under the hood, and of course inside the doors. But overall, I think they did a great job. The big surprise is that the car looks different inside too. I guess because the light reflecting off the exterior paint affects the color inside.
When we got to Maaco, they had just finished cleaning it. The Maaco man seemed surprised that I wanted his picture, but he was a good sport about it. He struck a pose and made jokes about ending up on the cover of "Players Magazine." Not quite, but close!
The dogs were mildly interested in the new paint -- anything that smells funny is interesting to them. They all checked it out but I only got Lena's picture. Thirteen flees whenever she realizes I'm looking at her, and Nutty does the opposite -- heads straight for any possible source of affection. Only Lena stood still for the photo.
I want to get started on the carpet right now, but I've got too much to do this weekend. It's probably better that I hold off until I've had a chance to sketch out the design. I bought the Chilton manual, which has nice diagrams I can use for the sketches.
In other news, Lisa the car cam queen offered to set me up with a web cam in the car for the Houston parade next year. How cool is that!!

sorry bud but that ain't techno blue, maaco sux. looks good, but it aint techno.
Actually it's pretty darned close to techno blue, close enough that I feel comfortable saying it "is" techno blue. I parked next to a techno blue new beetle soon after it had been done, and the colors were nearly identical.
Maaco may indeed suck, but they nailed Undersea Mah Jongg's color pretty well in my opinion. I've got no complaints!
Hey,
From the pictures I see, Your car looks pretty good! I have an old 1973 super beetle. It is boring light blue, and has a little rust on it. I am thinking of taking it to Maaco and having it painted orange. Do you think this would be a wise decision? I don't want the paint to flake of or anything, I just want it o look good, and I don't have a lot of money to afford anything else.
Hello, i stumbled upon this thread and thought i might ask for opinions on maaco also. I am planning on going there in a week or so to get my car repainted. It is silver now and not in to great of shape. I am 18 and my father is a mechanic/body man with about 40 years of experience in the biz. He has been sorta helping me out with my project but has pretty much just told me what to do and how to do it. Of course i get it wrong 3 or 4 times before i actually get it done and it been moving alot slower than i expected. Anyways i am now repairing all the major dents and bumbs with bondo and sanding them out then putting on primer. Its not perfect but most of the visable dents are mostly gone. Now i am planning on taking it to maaco to get it painted because they seem alot more equiped to do a better job. Now back to the point, i am tring to repaint my car a preferablly dark color. Black or deep dark blue. There are still minor little scuffs everywhere and i know that black tends to show everything that is wrong with the car. every little dent and scratch seems to get magnified and i am im debating weather or not to paint it that color. Oh by the way the car is a '91 Subaru Loyale Coupe. I dont really know why they call it a coupe even though it is a hatchback...but thats a different story. I am just asking for feedback to know if number one: is changing a car's color from silver to black a good idea "my dad says no, not really but i dont want to repaint it silver and have the same exact old looking car. Number Two: Anyone with a black car or knows someone with a black car, does it really show all minor problems with the car. And number threee: Is maaco's quality good, long lasting and worth the money?
Thanks in advance for anyone that helps me out, Please if you have any thoughs email me at geebbes13@hotmail.com
thanks
Maaco paint jobs commonly have no runs or streaks, but will inevitably get cracks in, or have that orange peel texture to them.
When do the cracks or "orange peel texture" typically show up? I've had the paint job for 4 years and haven't noticed it yet. Although a fair percentage of the car's surface is covered with decorations, so it might be happening in spots where I can't see it.
The only problem I ever noticed with the paint is a couple of small chips where I had stuck on some electrical tape and left it there for months. When I finally peeled off the tape residue, the paint chipped. But I think that might have happened to a factory paint job too.
I have a 1992 bmw 325i which is grey in color , the car has minor scratches and a few small dings, I therefore would like to have a rough estimate of a fairly good paint job at Maaco and whether it would be advisable to change my cars color to black. Thank you
Kelvin
Hi Kelvin, you might want to contact your local Maaco for an estimate. I don't work for Maaco, I just had them paint my car five years ago. Good luck!
what state do you live in iwant to have my honda painted at maaco, and are you still happy with it. what type of paint job did you have. and what did they charge. i am florida
Hi Andrew, it's been 5 years so the color isn't as vibrant as it was before, but I'm still happy with my Maaco paint job. I haven't noticed the problems people mentioned above. I can't remember what they charged because, like I said, five years. I think they charge different amounts based on how much prep work they do, and the more prep work the better for your paint job.
People who are seriously into their cars may not be satisfied with Maaco, but it was good enough for me.
