I bought ten feet of carpet at Lowe's. I hope that will be enough. Also bought a caulk gun, a tube of heavy duty silicon, a tube of Liquid Nails. I've heard varying opinions over which is the better adhesive for large areas. Everyone agrees Liquid Nails is stronger. But my friend Monte suggests silicon might be better for the rug because it's more flexible. I'll experiment with both and see which holds up better.
I had a priceless exchange with the guy who cut the rug for me (cut a rug! get it? haha!):
I'd like ten feet of the sparkly blue one please.
"The sparkly blue one? Where are you going to put it, on your boat?"
No, on my car.
"Oh, on your car. Wait. On your car?"
yep.
"On the outside?"
yep.
"How are you going to attach it?"
silicon caulk.
"Oh. You've done this before?"
yes, but with other stuff, not carpet.
"Oh." (shrug) "Well, when I see you on the road, I'll say, 'I sold her that rug!'"
Some folks are like that: they play it cool & maintain a seen-it-all-before attitude. He didn't even react much when I asked if I could take his picture. Just wanted to know if that was one of those digital cameras. A pretty cool guy.
