Spent most of the day decorating the car and I'm completely fried. It was hot and the car is parked right in the sun. But I got a lot done. In fact, I'm just about finished. There are a few odds and ends I'll try to get to tomorrow, but I had to leave for Houston with it just like this, I'd feel OK about it.
Georg helped paint the hubcaps blue. I bought this tire gel that's supposed to tint your tires and make them sparkle. Don't know if it will work or not but I'm going to try it tomorrow. It won't be as impressive as the people who painted their tires with One Shot spray paint, but it will be better than boring old plain tires.
And Rob had a fantastic idea for the inflatable trout. See, I ordered these trout from American Science and Surplus, intending to float them over the car. When they arrived I realized that, being vinyl, they're too heavy to float. For the Chapel Hill parade I made simple wire stands by bending the base of the wire in two places, hanging the trout from the top, and taping the bent part to the roof of the car.
That worked pretty well in December, but there's way too much on the roof for it to work now. There's just no room for those big wire stands. So I ordered these strong magnets with little handles on top. And Rob had an excellent idea: he bought a dowel that just fits into the handle. We'll slide a bit of dowel into the handle, tape the bent end of the wire to it, and cover the whole thing with construction foam. He even bought blue spray paint so we can make the foam look like little waves. I think it's going to work great!
Now the bad news: I've run into another problem with the web cams. I did a trial run in the car, while I was decorating it. Everything is fine on this end, but my ftp connection keeps locking up. Without ftp I have no way to get the photos onto the server so people can see them.
I've written to tech support for help, and in the meantime I have an idea for maybe how to fix it & will work on that tonight. Now, I need to rest a bit.
