6 days till departure

So Georg drops me off at the mechanic this morning to pick up my car. The car is there, you will recall, to finish repairing the damage from a break-in a few weeks ago. I wasn't too upset about the break-in, even though the damage was fairly expensive, because they hadn't managed to get the CD player. I guess it was wedged in there too well or something.

Anyway, this morning I pay the mechanic, glad to have it all over with, get in my car, adjust the seat, mirror etc, am pulling out of the lot when I look down and realize that there's a hole in the dash where my CD player used to be, with a bunch of wires sticking out. The CD player was stolen! From the mechanic's lot!

The mechanic was really cool about it. I went in and told him, "um, my CD player is missing. Your guys wouldn't have had a reason to remove it?" He came out and looked, asked for the receipt (which I luckily had in the car), went inside and credited my mastercard for the full amount. He said they hadn't had a theft problem since they had installed the security fence a few years ago, and he was really surprised by this. There are several auto businesses inside the fence; I wonder if it was an employee of one that did it.

I'm not even upset about it; it's just funny. Ironic actually, that the original break-in failed to get my CD player, but then it was stolen while I was getting the windows repaired. I really can't spare the time to have a new one installed, but I guess I'll have to!

Maybe there was something about that particular CD player that made people want to steal it? It wasn't particularly expensive, but it looked rather overbearing. I ought to replace it with something a little more unobtrusive.
