It's been quite a long time since I last wrote here. Rather than make useless apologies or excuses, I'll just point you to my other web log if you're interested in what I've been up to all this time, and plow ahead with the car's current state.
OK. What's up with Undersea Mah Jongg these days? Mainly, we're in the thick of preparations for the big trip to the Houston art car parade at the end of the month. It is going to be Too!! Much!! Fun!! Though I think we may go crazy trying to get ready.
Georg's brother is going to house-sit, so we won't have to worry about the house being empty and our dogs in the kennel for two weeks. Which is a big relief to me, especially about the dogs. They're old and one just had dental surgery a couple of weeks ago. So I would have hated for them to be stuck in a kennel all that time.
The car is almost done, amazingly enough. Of course an art car is never really done, but it's getting close to the point where I'll feel good about 250 more experienced art car drivers seeing it in Houston. The trunk is finished, the right side almost done. The roof and hood could use some more embellishment but they're OK the way they are. Only the left side, the interior and the back bumper still really need work.
I've had to give up my grandiose plans for black light and glow in the dark fishies inside the interior. Mainly because I couldn't find any glow in the dark fish. I found glow in the dark paint, that would make anything glow, but it's surprisingly expensive. Oh well! I do want to decorate the rear shelf like the inside of a sandlecastle -- colored gravel, plastic castles, etc. Of course the mermaid Barbie gets pride of place back there.
The title of this entry refers to a comment someone made on my car. She was admiring the car with her young daughter when I came up, so we chatted about it a bit. As she was leaving she said, "it's like a movie for the eyes!" She obviously meant that as a compliment, but what in the heck does it mean? A movie for the eyes? Huh? Maybe she was trying to say that the decorations on the car sort of tell a story.
Last weekend my friend Lisa came over and spent a whole day helping me set up my computer for the parade. More on that in the next entry.

For making your own GITD paint you can look at www.extremeglow.com for SnAl:Eu. That stuff really glows and for up to fourteen hours! I have used it to outline doors in dark hallways etc using non water base4d paints. If you want to use the old fashioned GITD pigment ZnS:Cu go to www.misterart.com where you can order a lb. of pigment.
