The Charlotte Shout festival was a blast! It was the Charlotte labor day parade, the art cars were the entry for the Arts & Science Council. They treated us really well, the parade was fun, the other drivers were great, all the people I met were really nice. I finally got to meet Dave and Irene Major, who drive the Aerocar, and see the famous Stink Bug. It would have been a perfect day if Georg hadn't been sick and had to stay home.
I think if I recall correctly there were 7 cars total. There were Deb and I representing TRACK (Triangle Regional Art Car Klub), Nancy with Miss Liberty, the Stink Bug, Dave and Irene with the Aerocar, a nice woman whose name I forget from South Carolina with vines painted on her car, and a clown car that had been commissioned by the Arts & Science Council. The artist's three granddaughters were dressed as clowns and riding in the car with him. There was supposed to be an 8th, a friend of the woman with the vine car, but she didn't show.
We were in between two marching bands who were really LOUD! At the staging area we were near a steel drum band, we were really hoping they'd ride behind us because they were really good! But no, it was a marching band instead. I felt bad for the girls marching in the front, I'm sure they had a face full of bubbles most of the way.
Robert Bush, the guy from the ASC, told me they were hoping to start an art car thing in Charlotte. I hope they do! It would be really nice to have art car events so close by. They were really, really nice to us, not just Robert but all the people I met were friendly and asked lots of questions about the car.
I'll write up the event in more detail later. Just wanted to get my photos posted tonight.
