The past couple of weeks we've been searching for a summer blanket or coverlet for our bed. We finally found one that would suit, but the search was harder than you might expect. (at least, harder than I expected.) We had this conversation about it, in Kohl's:
me: Why do they only sell comforters and duvet covers? Doesn't anyone just use a blanket in the summer?
Georg: Because unlike us, they all use their air conditioning.
me: But do they have to keep it so cold that they need a comforter in July? Why can't they run their a/c just a little bit?
Georg: Now that's just un-American.

this conversation doesn't make nearly as much sense transcribed as it did at the time. oh well...
ooh! but did you find a blanket?
i sleep very badly if i'm cold so i set my a/c to about 80 at night. or open the windows if it's cool out.
i am SO not american.
L. likes to sleep with a comforter, even in the summer. I'm still not sure why. I'm happy with nothing covering me when I sleep. The A/C situation is a constant low level battle, mostly because I'm a cheap bastard.
i found a night, lightweight blanket at target. $16.
i also found a slightly nicer one at linensource.com. $29.
Yes we did find a blanket! At Linens N Things. It's not perfect but it's pretty close. The one I got last year at Ikea was exactly what I wanted, but alas it was too small for the bed. We checked the measurements on the Ikea website and the "full/queen" should have been big enough. I think the one I bought must have been in the wrong package.
I can't sleep if it's above 74. I'll wake up sweaty and miserable at 5 am and be unable to return to slumber.
(And the blanket weight doesn't seem to matter ... I think it's a function of the temperature of the bits that stick out, like feet and head.)
