Movable Type 3.1

I just installed MT 3.1. They charge now for an installation with multiple authors, but they credited my previous donation, so the cost was very little. Besides, it's well worth it for a tool I use so much. Here's hoping this entry posts!

yay, it posted! Now to attack the comment spam.

first problem: the script that uploads my photos doesn't work anymore. Rewriting that script is going to be a major pain in the butt. I think I'll leave that for tomorrow. I don't have any photos to upload right now anyway.

On the plus side, the blacklist plugin works much better. It automatically moderates all comments with more than x URLS in them (defaults to 5) and comments on posts older than x days (defaults to 14). So you have a chance to approve questionable comments before they show up on the blog. My most frequent spammer posted 10 comments last night, none of which made it onto the journal. Yay for Jay Allen!

i thought the moderation features were built into mt3, i didn't think mt-blacklist was necessary to get the approval stuff?

Moderation is built in but it's either on or off -- all comments moderated or none. The blacklist lets you moderate just comments on old posts or comments with a lot of URLs, both of which are characteristic of comment spam.

The effect is that only comments which are likely to be spam are moderated, with no hassle to your normal commenters who typically only comment on new posts.

oh, ok, that's really cool!
