Last morning of vacation. So sad! And quelle tragique (altho not surprising) to discover only today that the swanky hotel puts on a supernice complementary continental breakfast. That would have been a much better thing to do on Monday morning than schlepping over to the frankly unpleasant Coffeecake Cafe (in City Market, and more proof that it's not usually a good idea to get dining ideas from ads in tourist magazines). Just nice coffee and juice and Stash teas but its in the atrium and it's an ever oh so civilized and calming way to start the day.
Savannah, I've found, is also very into pirates. Between the Pirate House restaurant and the mad plethora of piratically themed souvenirs it's just been requiring all the restraint I can muster not to be walking around all day spouting piratical gibberish.
I've also noticed that tour guides and tourist-type publications tend to find ways to talk about the past without having to mention the issue of slavery. There is a monument (I think it's unfinished) on River St. with a quote from Maya Angelou. Perhaps if we had more time to spend here, I'd find a more complete picture of the city's history is readily available.
When we were walking yesterday we passed a very large and impressive synagogue, which was built in the later 19th century. But the synagogue itself was founded in 1733, which IIRC makes it the oldest in the country.

(more randomness to follow... isn't there always)

home

We are home. The drive back was uneventful and fast. Georg is unpacking the car, because I drove. (Also because he's a swell guy.) I'm chilling at the computer, petting the dogs, and enjoying a few moments of quiet.

Also checking out my package from BPAL! It probably arrived the day we left. Which bummed me out to no end at the time, but the trip was so hot and sweaty that no perfume I tried lasted more than an hour or two. So it doesn't really matter than I didn't have the new scents until now. I tried on Buck Moon right away, and I love it. I lurrrve it. I was worried that it would be too strong & animalistic, but it isn't at all. It's a light musk, very subtle, perfect for this weather. Mmm.
