tights update

I'm fairly impressed with Socks Dreams response to my email about the tights. They said they use Crayola washable markers to write on invoices, so it might wash out. They offered me a choice: I can either wash the tights, and they'll give me a 50% credit if it comes out, just for my trouble, or replace the pair if it doesn't. Or they can send a replacement right away, including a postage paid envelope to return the damaged pair.

The ink mark didn't come from their invoice, because the mark on the tights is blue and the writing on the invoice is red. But what the heck, I'll try washing them first. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will come out, and then I'll have a credit for my next order. Which I will definitely be ordering again, I really appreciate their good customer service.

I love Sock Dreams! It's sooo easy for me to spend tons of money there that I'm afraid to even look at their page right now! Good to know their customer service is so good.

ok, sarah. i don't know what's come over me, but i'm considering buying my first pair of tights EVER. give me some guidance. i'm at the sock dreams site right now... what do i start with? cotton? spandex? nylon? wool? i'm going to wear them primarly with boots & skirts.

Cotton tights are the most comfortable to me, although they need to have at least a little spandex in them to hold their shape.

Wool are also nice if you get really cold in winter. If the cold doesn't typically bother you then you may find wool too warm. Again there should be some spandex in the blend or they will lose their shape.

To me, nylon tights feel like pantyhose. I try not to buy nylon unless I can touch them and make sure the texture is OK, and even then only if the color or pattern is spectacular. Anything marked 'microfiber' is likely to be comfortable.

The EG Smith tights on the sock dreams site are extremely comfortable and stay up all day, on me at least. Unfortunately they seem to have some wear problems: they have to be hand washed or the elastic will fray, and today I wore a pair for the first time and they immediately developed a hole in the butt. (Which hole I didn't know about until I bent over and flashed the entire balcony of the Carolina Theatre. Whoops!)

I've had good luck with DKNY brand tights, though I don't know where to buy them around here. Maybe a department store.
