that is just wrong

Tonight we saw an AmEx commercial featuring the song "Gimme Some Money" by the Thamesmen. Also known as Spinal Tap. I think that is the weirdest ad music I've ever seen.

Is it really weirder than using "Lust for Life" (which is about heroin) to sell SUVs? Or "Big Bottom" to sell Jenny Craig? Or "Christmas with the Devil" for Hallmark?

Okay, I just made those last two up. But the "Lust for Life" one is real and still croggles me.

Cruises, actually.
The only similar use of a parody song in advertising I can think of is the bank or investment firm that's using "the Money Song" (as heard on Monty Python's Flying Circus). Seriously.

You're right, the cruise ship ads with "Lust for Life" are equally weird, though less novel.

I also think the "Happy Happy Joy Joy" Sarah Lee ads are beyond strange. Do they really want me to think about grotesque, filthy cartoon characters when I see their baked goods?
