the mad miss manton

March 26 movie: The Mad Miss Manton. Speaking of silly movies that work because of the high-powered chemistry between the stars. This was an amateur detective story, essentially yet another Nick and Nora imitator, starring Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda. Boy howdy, talk about chemistry. Stanwyck plays a socialite heiress (a strangely popular character in 30s screwball comedies) who stumbles onto a murder. Fonda is a newspaper reporter (another popular character) who ridicules her in his column, then helps her solve the crime. Do they fall in love? Do you have to ask?

I love this movie and have not seen it since AMC played all those old movies. I would love to find it on dvd or even vhs but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Hi Connie! Do you get Turner Classic Movies? That's where I saw it. It's the bestest station ever if you like old movies. I remember the days when AMC was an old movie station too, & was better than TCM. That was a long time ago!

ps: looks like Amazon.com Marketplace (their third party vendors) has the Mad Miss Manton on VHS! I like Amazon Marketplace, I've found some unusual things that I really, really wanted that way.
