Georg posted trivia questions on his blog. If you want to read the questions without the answers, go to his home page first. There's one category left, Holiday Food:
1) what fried potato dish is traditionally served at Chanukah? (must give the Yiddish name)
2) what is the name of the traditional Italian Xmas eve meal?
3) in Dickens' "A Christmas Carol", what food does Scrooge have delivered to the Cratchits for their Xmas dinner?
4) in Dr. Seuss' story How the Grinch Stole Christmas, what dish is the centerpiece of the Who's Xmas dinner?
5) What are traditional sugarplums made of?
1) latkes
2) the Feast of Seven Fishes
3) turkey
4) Roast Beast
5) sugared seeds, esp. caraway seeds
My comments: It was hard to come up with questions about holiday foods! Most traditional foods (gingerbread, mincemeat, fruitcake, plum pudding, etc) have too many variations in ingredients and in origin stories.
#1 was in the right place, but I think #2 and #4 should have switched. Actually #4 should have been #5, and we should have come up with something else besides the sugarplum question. Which was way too hard. #4 would have been insanely hard, except that Food Network just ran a special about it.
I feel bad about #3 because it was kind of a trick question. The Cratchits have a goose, then Scrooge buys them a turkey. When I first heard the question I was certain it was a goose. I had to look it up in Google Books to be convinced. Just like me, all but one of the teams wrote down "goose."
