Had a fun show this afternoon. Which, as usual, I forgot to mention in advance. I played a few back requests which had been made in previous shows, but I hadn't been able to fill at the time. The best one was the most interesting request I've ever gotten: for songs about the Flying Spaghetti Monster. That one totally stumped me when it came in a couple of weeks ago. I thought it over, did some searching and managed to put together a whole set of Flying Spaghetti Monster music:

"Cock-a-Doodle, I'm Off My Noodle" was the most fun discovery, a hilarious novelty song from the 1920s. The most hilarious part was that iTunes music store euphemized the title as "C**k-a-Doodle, I'm Off My Noodle." No, I'm not kidding. Thank you iTunes, for protecting me from such dangerous language.
I haven't listened to the show yet--I recorded it and will start listening tomorrow--but WOW.
I had thought of "One Meatball" and "Come Fly with Me". The only other one I had thought of was "Jeepers Creepers", because the FSM has such prominent eyes. The original of "He Touched Me", an Elvis hit from 1973, is from 1963 (the later end of your range) but is gospel, and thus not in your genre.
Listened to it this morning on my way to work and again this afternoon on my way home. WOW.
It was such a great request that I had to do it justice. I wish I had thought of "Jeepers Creepers"! "He Touched Me" might not be in format, but it's probably closer than "C is for Cookie."

How did you come to learn about the Mummers' Parade? I used to live on Broad Street in South Philadelphia, I had a front row seat to the proceedings for a few years.
I grew up in Delaware and we used to watch the parade every year on TV. I wish I could have seen it live like you did. For a long time I had my folks videotape as much as they could and mail me the tape, but I don't have a VCR anymore. Alas!
